MOSCOW, Idaho---CSUN Women's Soccer suffered a 1-0 loss to the University of Idaho on Saturday evening at the P1FCU Kibbie Dome. The Vandals scored the lone goal of the contest in the 25th minute and held off the Matadors the rest of the way. Goalkeeper Hayden Mauldin recorded a career-high 12 saves including eight in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Matadors came out quickly on the offensive end, generating three shots over the first five minutes of action as two of those attempts were blocked by the defense. Malea Johnson forced goalkeeper Paula Flores to make a save at the net in the 11th minute while Siena Navarra missed high of the net moments later. On the flip side, Mauldin thwarted attempts from Georgia Whitehead and Izzy Thoma following corner kicks. The Vandals though broke through in the 25th minute, capitalizing on precise passing leading to Payton Oelkers scoring from straight away in front of the goal.

CSUN would be tested by a relentless Idaho team on the offensive end in the second half. The Vandals totaled 10 shots in the period alone, but Mauldin and the Matador defense would not let any strike hit the back of the net. Over a six-minute stretch, Mauldin turned away four shot attempts to open the second half. The Matador netminder saved another in the 68th minute then survived back-to-back corner kicks for Idaho. In the closest call of the period, Idaho's Hallie Prinos-Grumbach hit the crossbar in the 85th minute, which would be followed by Tori Peters delivering a shot that was blocked by the defense. CSUN collected two shots in the second half but could not find the equalizer as Flores notched a save in the period.

NOTES OF THE GAME

CSUN drops to 0-2 on the season while Idaho improves to 2-0.
The Vandals held a 17-8 edge in shots as well as a 13-2 lead in shots on goal.
Idaho finished with seven corner kicks compared to two for CSUN.
Yasmin Azar had two shots for CSUN to lead the team.
The group of Jana Akins, Harper Curnutt, Sydney Lipkin, Michelle Monroy, Azar and Navarra played the full 90 minutes.
Ariana Lopez-Angel was shown a yellow card for the Matadors.

CSUN opens the home portion of its schedule on Thursday, Aug. 20 when the Matadors take on Idaho State at Matador Soccer Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
