Dick Enberg

Dick Enberg was a member of the inaugural class inducted into the CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame in 1981. Enberg served as head junior varsity baseball coach and assistant varsity baseball coach under Stan Charfofsky at San Fernando Valley State (CSUN) from 1962-65. He briefly took over as head coach before transitioning into broadcasting full-time. Enberg helped guide the 1965 baseball squad to the program's first-ever conference championship

In addition, Enberg served as assistant to the college president from 1964-66 and as an assistant professor. In 1965, he left academia, moving on and became the play-by-play announcer for the historic UCLA basketball team coached by another legend, John Wooden, from 1966 to 1977.  At the same time, he announced for the Los Angeles Rams football team and then in 1969 for the California Angels.
Enberg was a sports broadcaster for more than 50 years, winning numerous awards, including nine Sportscaster of the Year awards, 15 Emmy Awards, and the Ronald Reagan Media Award. His immense credentials over a period of more than 50 years in broadcasting include NFL and NCAA football, NBA and NCAA basketball, four Olympic Games, Wimbledon, the World Series, the Masters and U.S. Open golf tournaments, heavyweight boxing, figure skating, horse racing, track & field, and the list goes on and on.
A  2015 inductee into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame (The Ford C. Frick Award), Enberg remained deeply connected to the university throughout his life. He established the Dick Enberg Post-Graduate Scholarship for Academic Excellence to support CSUN student-athletes pursuing master's degrees.
