Frank Slaton was inducted into the CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame in 2001. Slaton was a two-time letter winner for the Matador Baseball team from 1970 to 1971.
In 1970, he helped lead CSUN to a 41-21 record and its first NCAA National Championship in baseball. During that season, Slaton was named the team’s Most Valuable Player and a second-team All-American. Slaton was also honored as an All-District VIII selection two years in a row.
In his two seasons with Northridge, Slaton had an amazing .342 batting average, with 10 home runs and 93 runs batted in.
He was continuously involved with softball and baseball little leagues in the Antelope Valley as well as at Antelope Valley High School and Antelope Valley College. Slaton was also inducted into the Antelope Valley College Marauder Sports Hall of Fame in 1988.
Slaton spent 29 years as an employee of Lockheed in Lancaster.
Slaton passed away on June 26, 2001, after his battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Amber; and sons, Justin and Daniel.
