Matadors Post Impressive Performances vs. Top Opponents

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team continued to excel in its 2015 fall season, posting several impressive performances against top competition this past weekend at the San Diego State Fall Classic II. Juniors Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei won the top doubles draw at the tournament, defeating opponents from Cal Poly, Colorado and the host Aztecs.Â
Hsu and Poei, who have combined to go 33-7 in dual competition during the spring while earning consecutive All-Big West honors, rolled to victory with some outstanding work. The duo lost a total of eight games over three matches and won the championship 6-2 over a pair of San Diego State players.Â
In other doubles action, the CSUN tandem of Kiryang Kim and Skyla Alcon won the consolation side of the second doubles flight. The duo defeated teams from UC Irvine and Colorado, including a tiebreaker victory over the Anteaters. In the same bracket, Vivian Lin and Mari Taslagyan scored victories over Colorado and Arizona.Â
More doubles action saw Scout Shutter and Elisaveta Nosenko post a win over opponents from San Diego and Leslie Chang and Arpe Bagumyan defeat a tandem from San Diego State in the third flight.Â
Singles action saw some more strong work from the Matadors. Lin picked up wins over San Diego State and Colorado in the second singles flight. Alcon also picked up two wins in the flight, defeating opponents from Air Force and UC Irvine.Â
In the third singles flight, Taslagyan defeated opponents from Air Force and Colorado while Kim recorded victories over UC Irvine, Colorado and San Diego State. Â Bagumyan also produced a three-set victory over UC Irvine in the flight.Â
Shutter produced a victory over UC Irvine while Poei registered a win over Arizona in other singles action. Chang and Nosenko also competed in singles action and Chang scored a victory over an opponent from UC Irvine.Â
