CSUN Completes CSUN Fall Invite and ITA Sectional Championships Over Weekend

NORTHRIDGE, Calif --- CSUN Women's Tennis completed a successful weekend of competition, hosting the annual CSUN Fall Invitational at Matador Tennis Complex from Nov. 7-9. The Matadors tallied seven wins in Northridge. Emma Moratalla Sanz found the winner's circle three different times during the tournament.
The doubles tandem of Angela Ho and Nicole West also competed in the ITA Sectional Championships in Seattle, Wash, but they didn't achieve a victory in two matches played. It was West's first-ever indoor match and the duo was close to a win in the consolation bracket. The tournament featured top-50 teams.
ITA SECTIONALS
Fresh off their stellar performance at the Southwest Regionals, Ho and West were invited to compete in this tournament hosted by the University of Washington. Unfortunately, this duo didn't win in the main bracket as they were bested by Anna-Marie Weissheim and Alexia Jacobs of Washington 6-2, 6-0.
The next day, in the consolation bracket, Natalie Rainke and Madelynn Ludwig from Grand Canyon University defeated the CSUN duo of Ho and West, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 to knock the Matadors out of the tournament.
FALL INVITE DAY ONE
Emma Moratalla Sanz and Vitoria Solis Urdiales found the winner's circle against Diana De Simone and Daisy Carpenter of Long Beach State, 6-4. Annette Robertson then went onto face Carpenter in singles, and Robertson was victorious, 6-4, 7-5.
CSUN then went onto face the University of New Mexico, but fell in both singles matches. Ana Veroux defeated Moratalla Sanz, 7-5, 6-2, while Ramona Petre bested Solis Urdiales, 7-5, 6-4.
FALL INVITE DAY TWO
Pacific's Maggie Hoe took on Robertson in a lone singles match, as the Pacific sophomore bested Robertson 6-4, 7-6 (4).
CSUN then took on Arkansas State in singles competition and split the two results. Moratalla Sanz defeated Anna Grigoreva 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (10) while Sarah Millard won over Solis Urdiales, 6-4, 6-4.
In a lone doubles match against New Mexico. CSUN found the winners circle when Sofia Dermenjyan & Robertson were victorious over Petre and Sarah L'Allier, 7-5.
FALL INVITE DAY THREE
CSUN took on Nevada in doubles and lost in both matches. Marlene Foerster & Kennedy Robinson (NEV) def. Moratalla Sanz & Solis Urdiales (CSUN), 6-2. Wiem Boubaker & Petra Janigova (Nevada) def. Dermenyjan & Robertson (CSUN), 6-1
CSUN also took on Pacific in singles on day three. The Matadors tallied two wins against the Tigers. Moratalla Sanz defeated Milena Maiorova, 6-2, 6-3. Dermenjyan also defeated Cindy Ung, 3-6, 7-5, 10-6.
Pacific's Indiya McLeod bested Solis Urdiales 4-6, 7-5, 10-2, and Rayna Sugai defeated Robertson, 6-3, 6-2.
UP NEXT
CSUN has completed the fall portion of its schedule. Now, the Matadors turn their attention to spring competition. Their first event is the Beach Winter Invite hosted by Long Beach State, January 16-18.
