Northridge, CA – The CSUN Matadors (2-5) fell to the UCLA Bruins (4-3) on Sunday afternoon in Pauley Pavilion with the final score of 45-77. Sophomore Micheal Warren, freshman Jason Richardson and senior Landon Drew led the team in scoring with nine points apiece and sophomore Zacarry Douglas contributed nine rebounds.
Â
"It really just boils down to our ability to score, our ability to make shots around the basket," said Head Coach Reggie Theus. "When you give up nine 3s and only make one, there's no coming back from that."
Â
The Matadors got off to a slow start, scoring their first points just more than six minutes into the game, and trailed 22-39 at the conclusion of the first half. Drew and Warren led the Matadors with five points apiece through the first 20 minutes and Dawson added five rebounds.
Â
CSUN kept a free throw streak going until midway through the second half, and ended the game 10-for-13 at the line. The Matadors scored 22 points in the paint to the Bruins' 30 and came through with just four second chance points, arguably the difference in the game. Drew scored the Matadors' only 3-pointer on the night.
"The score is not what's important, it's how hard I'm playing, am I doing things right, am I competing. Those are the things that matter most," said Theus.
Â
CSUN returns to The Matadome on Saturday, December 5 to play Pepperdine at 7:00 p.m. on Youth Night.
