NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (20-7) defeated Buffalo 4-1 Friday afternoon in a non-conference game as part of a tournament at Matador Diamond. Senior pitcher Jordan Sauceda fanned a CSUN career-high 11 batters and scattered six hits to earn her second win of the season. At the plate, Taylor Glover blasted a bases-loaded triple in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie and move her into fifth in program history with nine career three-base hits.Â
Having joined the team prior to the start of the 2014 season after two years at San Jose State, Sauceda delivered her best performance as a Matador in Friday's victory.
Buffalo got a solo home run in the top of the second, but otherwise could not solve the senior hurler's attack. Sauceda is now 2-1 with a 2.90 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 19.1 innings of work.Â
A day after setting a new program Division I record with her 38th career steal in Thursday's win over Bryant, Glover continued to climb the career charts at CSUN.
She broke a 1-1 tie with a triple to center field to score Katie Hooper, Kaitlin Toerner and Maylynn Mitchell. She now has nine triples in her year-plus at CSUN, passing former Matador Stacy Lim for fifth in program history.Â
Four Matadors finished with two hits in the win: Hooper, Toerner, Mitchell and Savannah Horvath. Hooper tied the game with a single in the second that scored Mitchell. Hooper now has a team-high 32 RBIs on the season. Horvath stole a career-high two bases and Taylor Nate, Aliyah Ricks and Mitchell also had stolen bases.Â
The Matadors continue at home this weekend with a 4 p.m. game against Buffalo on Saturday, Mar. 14. There will also be three non-CSUN games before the Matadors and Bulls take the field Saturday. Sunday, CSUN closes out the tournament with a 3 p.m. game against Colorado State.Â
