
CSUN Splits on Final Day of Wildcat Spring Challenge

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - After dropping a 4-1 decision to No. 15 Nebraska on Friday, the CSUN Sand Volleyball team split two dual matches Saturday. The Matadors defeated Boise State before falling to the host Arizona Wildcats at the Arizona Sand Volleyball Courts.
With Saturday's win over Boise State, CSUN improved to 3-6 on the season. The Matadors' No. 1 team of Casey Hinger and Kelcie Randazzo continued its excellent play this season by knocking off Hannah Hubbard and Maddy O'Donnell by the score of 21-17, 11-21, 15-10. Hinger and Randazzo improved to 5-4 in dual matches and 8-5 overall this season.
The Matadors' No. 3 team of Julie Haake and Nicolette Pinkney swept Katelyn Kinghorn and Ally Duffy 21-12, 21-13 and then CSUN claimed the win when the No. 4 team of Nada Dragovic and Alia Casino handed Kaitlyn Oliver and Maddie Osburn a 21-17, 19-21, 15-12 defeat.
Boise State won the other two matches when Sierra Nobley and Sarah Baugh defeated Mahina Haina and Katie Sato in the No. 2 match 21-15, 22-20 and Laney Hayes and Taylor Murphey handled Cieana Stinson and Stephanie Serna by the score of 21-11, 21-14. In the exhibition match at No. 6, Lauren Conati and Brianna Johnson picked up their first win of the season, 21-11, 21-14 over Jaymee-Lee Bulda and Murphey.
Later on Saturday, 10th-ranked Arizona swept CSUN as Hinger and Randazzo went three sets before falling to Madi Kingdon and Kaitlyn Leary (21-17, 17-21, 16-14) and Dragovic and Casino also fell in three sets to the Wildcat team of Taylor Arizobal and Allie Cook.
On Friday's dual match, CSUN's No. 1 team of Hinger and Randazzo captured the Matadors' only win by knocking off Justine Wong-Orantes and Alicia Ostrander 21-18-21, 13-21, 15-10.
The remaining matches all went to the 15th-ranked Cornhuskers as Kadie Roltzen and Kelly Hunter defeated Haina and Sato 21-12, 21-6. At No. 3, Amber Rolfzen and Kira Larson held off Haake and Pinkney 19-21, 21-16, 12-10. Haake and Pinkney have now gone to three sets three times this season.
Nebraska's Ceceilia Hall and Annika Albrecht also needed three sets to defeat Dragovic and Casino 19-21, 21-11, 15-9. At No. 5, Melanie Keil and Kelsey Fien held off Stinson and Serna 20-22, 21-11, 12-1. In the No. 6 match, Alexa Ethridge and Fien swept Conati and Johnson 21-14, 21-7.
CSUN returns to the Matador Sand Volleyball Facility Tuesday, Mar. 31 as the Matadors host Long Beach State in their season finale.
