NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---
The CSUN women's basketball program has signed Claudia Ramos and Ameiya Jackson to National Letters of Intent for the upcoming 2015-16 season, Matador head coach Jason Flowers announced. Ramos is a 6-0 guard from Mexico who brings international FIBA experience while Jackson is a state-championship-winning point guard from Texas.
"We are very happy that both Claudia and Mimi have chosen to pursue their goals at CSUN while helping raise our program to new heights," Flowers said. "Both of them are extremely driven young women who have great character and will represent our university with class."
Last summer, Ramos competed in the 2014 FIBA U17 Women's World Championships. Playing small forward for Mexico, Ramos averaged 7.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest. She scored in double figures in contests against Egypt and Italy at the event and pulled down 11 rebounds against the Egyptians.
Later that year, Ramos also competed in the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championships. In the tournament opener, Ramos led Mexico with 15 points in a contest against Team USA. She finished seventh among all competitors with an average of 7.2 rebounds per game as Mexico finished seventh in the competition.
Ramos attended the Instituto Tecnologico Campus Guadalajara where she averaged 12 points a game while shooting 60 percent from the field. In 2014, she was named the best high school small forward in Mexico and was part of the 2014 InterTecs Champions while earning MVP honors at the tournament.
Jackson is a 5-7 point guard who comes to the San Fernando Valley after a successful prep career at Manvel High School in Manvel, Texas. As a senior, Jackson averaged 10.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
After the season, she earned first team all-district and third team all-region honors for her work. Jackson also received all-district academic honors and was a recipient of Manvel's Scholar-Athlete Award.
As a junior, Jackson helped Manvel win the Texas Region III State Championship for the first time in school history. During her time at Manvel, Jackson played with a pair of McDonald's All-Americans: Brianna Turner (Notre Dame) and Jordan Hosey (Texas).
"Claudia is as skilled as any player we've recruited and also brings invaluable international experience. Mimi is an outstanding competitor who does all the things we want out of a point guard," Flowers added. "We look forward to them, as well as our other incoming freshmen, contributing to the improvement of our program."
Ramos and Jackson join Channon Fluker, Nautica Morrow and Cheyenne Allen as the Matadors' incoming recruits who have signed NLIs or grant-in-aid agreements. Fluker, Morrow and Allen all signed in November of 2014.
The two-time defending Big West Tournament Champions, CSUN will release its 2015-16 schedule in the coming weeks.
