CSUN Hosts UCSB on Fox Sports Prime Ticket, Travels to Hawai’i

NORTHRIDGE, CA---
CSUN Men's Basketball (10-17, 5-8 BWC) faces two more Big West Conference foes this week beginning on Thursday night. The Matadors take on UC Santa Barbara on Thursday on The Blacktop @ The Matadome at 7:30 p.m. and CSUN embarks on its final road trip of the season as it ventures out to Hawai'i to face the Rainbow Warriors on Saturday at 9 p.m. (PT). CSUN's contest against UCSB will be broadcasted on Fox Sports Prime Ticket. Also both games will be have a live audio broadcast on the CSUN Sports Network as both Ghizal Hasan and Alan Zinsmeister will call the contest with UCSB and Hasan will call the game at Hawai'i.
The Matadors competed in a pair of nail biters last week as CSUN dropped a hard-fought and close 69-63 decision to Hawai'i last Thursday at home. Two nights later, the Matadors pulled off a 75-71 overtime victory at Cal Poly to sweep the season series for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign.
CSUN trailed by as many as nine to Hawai'i in the second half but rallied to take a five-point lead with 8:01 left to play. The teams traded leads down the stretch but the Rainbow Warriors would hold on in the final seconds for a six-point win. Kendall Smith led the Matadors with 13 points while Aaron Parks had 12.
Against the Mustangs, the Matadors held a lead for nearly the entire second period before Cal Poly mounted a rally in the final minutes to send the game into overtime. The teams went back back-and-forth in the extra session until Micheal Warren put the Matadors up for good with a driving layup with 1:16 left. Jerron Wilbut scored a team-high 18 points off the bench while Parks had 15 points to go with seven rebounds.
Tre Hale-Edmerson again made CSUN history last week by becoming the all-time school leader in games played with 126, surpassing Josh Greene for first place. A consistent member of the Matador lineup over the past four years, the senior also became the all-time CSUN leader in career games started earlier in the season. He also cracked the 700-rebound mark for his career and sits in sixth place all time in the CSUN record books with 702. With seven more points, Hale-Edmerson would reach 800 points in his Matador career.
Smith continues to lead the Matadors in scoring with 16.0 points per game to go along with a team-best 3.1 assists. Micheal Warren is scoring 13.3 a game and has posted 4.0 rebounds. In 12 games this season, Parks has been a consistent offensive weapon in the lineup, averaging 11.8 points a contest.
The Gauchos lead the all-time series with CSUN 35-18 after taking the first meeting on Jan. 23, 74-61. Smith scored 20 points to lead the Matadors in defeat. At home, CSUN is 6-16 in the series and looks to snap a four-game skid at The Matadome. Hawai'i leads 11-4 all-time in the series with CSUN after earning a victory last week. The Matadors look to earn their first win at Hawai'i since the 1998-99 season.
A Closer Look at UC Santa Barbara
UCSB is 13-12 in the season and 7-5 in conference play after winning four-straight games. The Gauchos earned a 65-55 road victory at UC Riverside on Thursday and they defeated UC Davis at The Thunderdome, 62-55, on Saturday. On the road, the Gauchos are 8-6 and have won three straight away from home.
Senior guard Michael Bryson leads the conference in scoring with 18.7 points per game to go along with a team-best 6.3 rebounds. Bryson led the Gauchos in scoring with 19 points against CSUN on Jan. 23. Sophomore Gabe Vincent is posting 13.6 points for UCSB and he leads the team in steals with 1.3 per game.
A Closer Look at Hawai'i
The Rainbow Warriors have won six straight and are 22-3 overall including owning a conference-best 11-1 record. The Rainbow Warriors also boast a 16-2 record at Stan Sheriff Center. After holding off the Matadors last Thursday, Hawai'i posted a 75-71 victory at UC Irvine on Saturday night. Before hosting CSUN, Hawai'i will face visiting UC Davis on Thursday evening.
Junior center Stefan Jankovic is fifth in the conference in scoring (16.0) and rebounding (6.5). Jankovic scored a game-high 34 points against the Matadors last week. Junior Aaron Valdes is scoring 14.3 points per game and posting 5.6 rebounds. Senior Roderick Bobbitt leads the conference in assists (5.5) and steals (2.3) while scoring 13.0 points per game.
