Freshman Taylor Troost Puts Together Strong Performance in the Circle
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (12-12) lost 1-0 to No. 24 Oregon State Saturday afternoon as part of the Matador Classic at Matador Diamond. Freshman Taylor Troost put together a strong performance in the circle, scattering four hits in a complete-game performance, but timely hitting evaded the Matadors in their loss to the Beavers.Â
Troost (2-5), a rookie from San Bernardino, CA, went all seven innings against the No. 24 Beavers from the Pac-12 Conference. She finished with one walk and one strikeout and lowered her ERA to 5.36 in 47 innings of work this season.
The only run of the game came on a solo home run from Oregon State's Natalie Hampton in the top of the fourth. Otherwise, Troost got 10 flyouts and 10 groundouts in one of her strongest outings of the season.Â
Offensively, CSUN managed four hits and three walks off Oregon State's Bev Miller. However, the Matadors could not convert on the opportunities.Â
In the third, Mackenzie Babbitt picked up CSUN's first hit of the game in the third and moved all the way to third on a wild pitch with one out. But she would be stranded there as the game remained scoreless.Â
In the fifth Karlie Habitz led off the inning with a single, but a double play quickly killed the rally. The Matadors grounded into two double plays Saturday.Â
In the bottom of the sixth, Babbitt drew a walk but was then called out for leaving first early on a stolen base attempt. Savannah Horvath singled in the next at-bat and Katie Hooper cracked her 30th career double later in the inning, but the Matadors could not push across a run.Â
CSUN returns to action on Sunday with the tournament finale against San Diego at 12:30 p.m.Â
