Matadors to Honor Jasmine Johnson After Game with 49ers Saturday
COMPLETE RELEASE IN PDF FORMAT
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN women's basketball team (6-22, 4-10 Big West Conference) plays its final two regular season Big West Conference games of the 2016 season this week. On Thursday, Mar. 3, the Matadors travel to Orange County for a 7 p.m. match-up with Cal State Fullerton at Titan Gym. Two days later, CSUN meets up with Long Beach State at 3:30 p.m. as part of an In-N-Out CSUN Basketball Doubleheader with the CSUN men's basketball program.Â
Following the game with the 49ers, the Matadors will honor their senior on the 2015-16 squad, Jasmine Johnson. Both games this week will have Ghizal Hasan calling all the action on the CSUN Sports Network and both games will also be featured on BigWest.TV. Fans are also encouraged to check with the CSUN Athletic Department's official Twitter accounts (@GoMatadors, @CSUNCapeCrew and @_AlwaysFamily_) for updates throughout the weekend.
Last week, CSUN dropped a pair of Big West Conference contests. On Feb. 24, the Matadors lost 84-62 at home to league-leading UC Riverside. Channon Fluker led the way with 17 points and 14 rebounds, her 10th double-double of the Big West Conference season.
Two days later, CSUN nearly spoiled UC Davis' senior day before a fourth-quarter rally by the Aggies pushed them past the Matadors. Fluker had 19 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
With two games remaining, CSUN is firmly locked into the seven seed for the upcoming Big West Tournament. However, that does not mean this week's games do not mean anything, especially to the Titans and 49ers.
Cal State Fullerton is 1-13 in league play and is led by Michelle Berry, one of the conference's top rookies. The Titans are currently tied with UC Irvine for eighth place in the league standings and need a win to separate themselves from the Anteaters.
Long Beach State also has a lot at stake this week in relation to the Big West Tournament. The 49ers are currently tied with Hawai'i at 10-4 for second in the conference. The second-place team gets a double-bye straight to Honda Center while third place would have to play three games over the course of the tournament week to earn the NCAA Tournament berth.Â
