NORTHRIDGE, CA---
No. 25 CSUN Water Polo (8-14) continues its non-conference schedule with a Monday match at Matador Pool against No. 23 Marist College starting at 3 p.m.Â
The Matadors have gone 2-2 over their last four games after earning a split at last Thursday's home round robin tournament and splitting their two matches at the Zumo LMU Invite on Saturday afternoon. CSUN fell to No. 18 Harvard at home, 15-13, in a high scoring affair but rebounded with a 16-8 victory over Redlands. At Loyola Marymount, the Matadors dropped a hard fought 13-8 decision to No. 11 San Jose State but again CSUN quickly regrouped to post an 8-6 win against Whittier College.Â
Center Amy Yule had continued her hot shooting in the pool, totaling 11 goals in the four contests over the weekend. She has scored in each of the last nine matches as she has tallied 19 goals over that span. Yule completed the hat trick in each of the two matches at the LMU Invite. On the season, Yule has improved her goal total to 35 on the season on a team-best 51.5 percent shooting.Â
Attacker Madeleine Sanchez has also been on a hot streak, scoring in each of the last five matches including recording four-straight multiple scoring efforts. She is also 13 goals away from cracking the Top 10 in school history for the goals in a season.Â
CSUN has received contributions up and down its roster this season. Nine Matadors have scored in double figures while eight have recorded at least 10 assists. Shannon Hovanesian also has continued to fill up the stat sheet with her 14 goals, 22 assists, 37 steals and eight field blocks for CSUN.Â
Senior goalkeeper Natalie Averell has started the last four games in front of the cage and she has posted 19 saves in those matches. She is averaging 5.2 saves per game in over 186:00 at net.Â
Following the contest against Marist College, the Matadors will take a week off before hosting Brown on Tuesday, March 29. CSUN then will open Big West Conference play at UC Irvine on April 2.Â
CSUN has never lost to Marist in four all-time meetings including three at Matador Pool. The teams have not faced each other in three seasons as CSUN earned a 13-8 win in March 2013 in the last meeting between the two programs.Â
The Red Foxes are 6-11 on the season after splitting a pair in day one of the ASU Invitational. Marist defeated Cal Baptist, 9-7, before falling to Pacific, 8-4, on Saturday. Marist takes on Arizona State and Michigan in Sunday action to close out its stay at Arizona State. Last season, Marist went 20-14 including 11-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletics Conference play. The Red Foxes made it to the 2015 MAAC tournament finals before losing to Wagner.Â
