CSUN Softball Heads North for Libby Matson Classic

Matadors Face Pacific, Sacramento State and Seattle U in Stockton

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team (2-7) hits the road for its third preseason tournament of the 2017 season, traveling to Stockton to compete in the Libby Matson Classic from Feb. 24-26 on the campus of the University of the Pacific. The Matadors open the event Friday with contests against Sacramento State and Seattle, then face the Hornets and the host Tigers on Saturday before facing the Redhawks Sunday morning. All five games will feature live stats and the contest with the Tigers will also feature a video stream with links available on the softball schedule page of GoMatadors.com.Â
Last week, CSUN went 1-3 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Despite the record, CSUN flashed the potential that has the team thinking big in 2017. CSUN scored a 3-0 shutout victory over Saint Mary's and nearly pulled off victories over Arkansas and LMU. Senior Taylor Glover batted .467 over the four games with three stolen bases, three RBIs and four runs scored. Senior Katie Hooper blasted her first two home runs of the weekend and sophomore Taylor Troost delivered a complete-game shutout performance against the Gaels.
This week, CSUN takes on a trio of teams from the West Coast. The Pacific Tigers enter the weekend with a 3-5 overall record and have posted a pair of shutout victories over Cal State Fullerton. The Tigers' pitching staff carries a team ERA of 4.25 in 51 innings into the weekend.
The Seattle Redhawks are 2-7 on the season and are coming off a pair of neutral-site victories over Montana last weekend. Opponents have batted. 298 with 20 doubles in 58 innings of work. Finally, the Sacramento State Hornets are 2-3 on the season and have wins over UAB and Boise State this year. The Hornets have a team ERA of 3.91 ERA in 34 innings of work.Â
Next week, CSUN heads to Boise, ID to participate in the Spring Hill Suites Tournament on the campus of Boise State. CSUN will face Weber State and Boise State twice with one game against Santa Clara.

- After totaling 68 doubles in the 2016 season, CSUN has 14 doubles in 2017 and Tara Kliebenstein and Savannah Horvath have a team-high threeÂ
- Katie Hooper had a team-high 13 doubles in 2016, one in 2017 and 37 in her career, the second-most in program history
- Taylor Glover had 11 doubles in 2016, giving her 30 in her career and tying her for 10th in program history
- Savannah Horvath led the squad with 15 doubles in 2015, had 11 in 2016 and has one in 2017
- Karlie Habitz had seven doubles in 2016 and 23 for her career, which includes her time at Penn State

Base Paths Beware
- This season, the Matadors are 8-for-10 in stolen base attempts; Taylor Glover has six while Taylor Nate and Savannah Horvath have one each
- In 2016, the Matadors stole 92 bases to lead the Big West Conference and set a new program Division I record
- Glover now has 75 in her career, a CSUN Division I record and the fifth-most in Big West Conference history
- Savannah Horvath led the team with 23 stolen bases in 2016 and has 38 for her career
- Taylor Nate had 13 steals in 2016 and now has 33 for her career, placing ninth in program history
- Mackenzie Babbitt had 15 in 2016 while Katie Hooper had four to give her 11 for her career
- Aliyah Ricks finished with five stolen bases, matching her career high for a season, in 2016
- The Matadors stole 84 bases in 58 games in 2015, setting a new Division I record at the time
- Glover led the team and Big West with 28 steals in 2015
- Nate was third on the team with 12 steals in 2015; tied school record with three in a win over Utah State
- CSUN stole 69 bases in 57 games in 2014, the second-most thefts in the Big West ConferenceÂ
