Matadors 15th After One Round of Bruin Wave Invitational

NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUN women's golf team carded a first round 324 and are 15th after the opening round of the Bruin Wave Invitational at San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo.
In a field where eight teams ranked in the top 37 are competing, the Matadors are just 10 shots out of 12th place. The second round was suspended due to darkness with all teams finishing up round two beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. Upon completion of round two, teams will continue on to the final round.
After one round, freshman Alice Duan leads the Matadors at six-over 79 which is good for a tie for 45th. Duan was four-over after making a birdie at the par three 12th but bogeyed two of her final three holes to finish round one at 79.Â
Shenna DeLeon is tied for 52nd, one stroke behind Duan at seven-over 80 after one round. DeLeon tied for the Matador high with three birdies in the opening round, finishing one-over on the back nine and eight-over on the front. Kayla Yn is another shot back as she carded an eight-over 81 and is tied for 66th.
Also for CSUN, Brianna Steger is tied for 73rd at 11-over 84 and Ysabel Tran is tied for 79th at 14-over 87.
Top ranked Stanford leads the team competition after one round at 293. Individually, Stanford's Albane Valenzuela and UCLA's Lilia Vu share the opening round lead at three-under 70.
