In celebration of Black History Month, CSUN Athletics recognizes the accomplishments of former student-athletes who have contributed to the history and rich tradition of CSUN.Â
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- An exceptional passer, a tenacious defender, a talented scorer and a member of CSUN's Men's Basketball's first NCAA Tournament team at the Division I level, Markus Carr (1998-2002) did a little bit of everything during his time with the Matadors. No stranger to making history, Carr etched his name in the Matador record books in a host of categories as he left a lasting legacy as one of the program's greatest point guards.Â
Appearing in over 25 Top 10 lists in the Matador record books, Carr holds the CSUN career assist record with 767 along with the all-time single-season assist record with 286 (2000-01). Carr's 15 assists he recorded in 2000 against Wyoming and again in 2001 versus Montana State are the most assists ever in a single game in team history.Â
An all around player, Carr is second in school history in steals for a season with 78 (2001-02) and second in career steals (252). Carr also remains fifth in career minutes (3,590), tied for sixth in games played (119) and 12th in career points (1,173). In addition, Carr's 32 consecutive made free throws in 2000-01 are the second-most all-time at CSUN.Â
Receiving three All-Big Sky Conference First Team nods in his career, Carr helped lead CSUN to the program's first ever Big Sky Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2001. During the magical 2001 season, Carr led the nation with 8.9 assists per game.Â
Following an exceptional collegiate career, Carr continued his playing career at the professional level. Carving out a lengthy and prosperous decade-long career, Carr suited up and played for many international teams across Europe and South America.Â
A 2012 CSUNÂ graduate, Carr was inducted into the Matador Hall of Fame in 2014.Â
