Matadors Drop Season Opener 4-1 at Concordia

NORTHRIDGE, CA - The CSUN beach volleyball team officially opened the 2017 season Wednesday but the Matadors dropped a 4-1 decision to Concordia at Irvine Valley College.
The CSUN pair of Kristey Markle and Autumn Russell earned the Matadors lone win of the day as they won 12-21, 26-24, 15-13 in the No. 3 match.
In the No. 2 match, Julie Haake and Katie Sato also went the distance but fell by the score of 13-21, 22-20, 15-13. All three other matched went to the host Eagles in straight sets. Maddie Leiphardt and Aeryn Owens lost 21-13, 21-17 in the No. 1 match, Nico Stork and Nicolette Pinkney lost 21-13, 21-15 in the No. 4 match and Cassidy Rosso and Nickeisha Williams dropped a 21-17, 21-17 decision at No. 5.
The Matadors opened the season with a series of exhibition matches last weekend as CSUN swept both Ventura College and Long Beach City College 5-0 on Friday. The Matadors then hosted Pierce College and Santa Barbara City College on Saturday with CSUN coming away with 5-0 wins in each match.
CSUN is off from match play until Mar. 18 when the Matadors travel to CSU Bakersfield to take on the host Roadrunners and Loyola Marymount in dual matches.
