NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Athletics will hold a special ground breaking ceremony to celebrate the new Matador Field Entrance Plaza on Sunday, January 28. The event will start at 11 a.m. at Matador Field.Â
Following the generous lead gift of alumnus Irv Zakheim, the new entrance plaza is the first phase of the Baseball Stadium Renovation Project, which proposes to modernize and upgrade Matador Field. The new entrance plaza will be located in the southwest corner of the facility. Features include wrought iron fencing, custom signage, new landscaping and a ticket booth. Fans will have a view of the playing field, allowing the community to gather on game day before cheering on the Matadors.Â
"This project is a tremendous opportunity for our university, athletics department, and baseball program to demonstrate our commitment to comprehensive excellence. This first phase of our baseball facility renovation will undoubtedly be an integral part of enhancing the fan experience," said CSUN Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon E. Martin.
Construction is set to commence in February and will not affect any CSUN Baseball games this upcoming 2018 season.
The ground breaking ceremony will take place prior to the CSUN Baseball Alumni Game at 1 p.m. The annual alumni game is part of the CSUN Baseball Alumni Weekend and is free and open to the public. A day later, the Matadors will host the Fifth Annual Bob Hiegert Golf Classic at Porter Valley Country Club in Northridge on Monday, January 29.
