NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Baseball's junior outfielder Matthew Thomas earned his second Big West Field Player of the Week award on Monday, as announced by the league office.Â

Originally from Garden Grove, Thomas powered the Matador offense this past week, slashing .579/.600/.737 across four games while totaling 11 hits, six RBI, five runs scored and one homer.Â
The junior began the week with a three-hit effort along with a run scored in a narrow 6-5 loss to Pepperdine in Malibu last Tuesday.
He would keep up his hitting ways in a series victory over Long Beach State at home. Thomas collected three hits with an RBI and a run scored in a 7-2 victory over the Dirtbags to open the series on Thursday. After picking up a hit in game two, Thomas concluded the series by going 4-for-5 with four RBI, three runs scored and a home run to help CSUN take the series, 18-4, on Saturday.Â
A transfer from California, Thomas leads the Big West with 33 runs scored and a 1.211 OPS while he is second on the team in batting average (.360), home runs (10) and RBI (28).Â
Thomas also received the Big West's Field Player of the Week award on March 2 this season. Overall, his award is the fourth for Matador field players this season as Andrew Becker (March 9) and Kyle Panganiban (March 23) are the other recipients. Jaiden Turner also collected the Big West Pitcher of the Week award on March 9.Â
CSUN (17-13, 8-7 Big West) returns to action on Tuesday for a midweek matchup with Pepperdine at Robert J. Hiegert Field at 5 p.m. The Matadors then travel this weekend for a three-game series with UC Riverside starting Friday.Â
