CSUN Rallies From 14 Down To Defeat Washington St.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN rallied from a 14-point first half deficit to defeat Washington State 65-52 in the semifinals of the Warner Center Marriott Thanksgiving Basketball Classic Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUN missed 12 of its first 14 field goal attempts in the first quarter compared to 8-of-16 for Washington State as the Cougars took a 19-10 lead.
- Washington State would increase the run to 18-4, taking a 14-point lead, 26-12 early on in the second quarter. The Matadors responded by ending the first half on a 14-4 spurt that closed the Cougars' advantage to 30-26 at halftime.
- CSUN opened the closing frame with a 14-6 run which provide the Matadors' largest lead of the game to that point, 40-36. The Cougars scored seven of the final 11 of the third quarter to make it 44-43.
- The Matadors charged out of the fourth quarter gate by scoring 10 of the first 12 points to earn a 54-45 advantage as Washington State called a timeout with 6:46 to play in the fourth. CSUN would end the fourth quarter by making 8-of-10 field goal attempts and outscoring the Cougars 21-9 for the 13-point margin of victory.
- The Matadors held Washington State to 39.7% shooting (23-of-58) for the game and would outrebound the Cougars 52-33, 19-5 on the offensive glass.
- In its 45th season of competition, Friday night's victory was the 500th for CSUN. The Matadors 500-733 and are now the 262nd Division I team to win at least 500 games.
- Channon Fluker recorded her 59th career double as she scored a game high 24 points and grabbed a game high 14 rebounds. After going 5-of-16 in the first half, the 6-4 senior center would go 6-of-9 from the field in the final 20 minutes.
- Serafina Maulupe scored 13 points and had three assists (no turnovers).
- De'Jionae Calloway scored six points and grabbed a season high 11 rebounds.
- Chanelle Molina played all 40 minutes for the Cougars, scoring a team high 20 points. She also led the team in assists with seven and added seven rebounds.
- Alexys Swedlund posted 13 for Washington State.
- Borislava Hristova, who came into the game 13th in Division I in scoring at 24.0 points per game, was held by CSUN to only 12 as she went 6-of-17 from the field.
- This was the first time CSUN defeated Washington State in four tries. The Matadors are now 12-51 lifetime against schools in the Pac-12.
- "We are fortunate to come out of here with a win. That was bad as a first quarter as we have played all season. Hats off to them, they did what they were supposed to do. They came out and jumped on us. We clawed back into it. Against a good Harvard team tomorrow, we have to get off to a better start."
- CSUN will play for the Warner Center Marriott Thanksgiving Basketball Classic title against Harvard at 6 p.m. The Crimson defeated Jacksonville State 69-62 Friday night. Harvard had three scorers in double figures, led by Jadyn Bush who scored 18.
- Washington State faces Jacksonville State at 3:30 p.m. in the third place game.
