CSUN Heads To San Diego Classic This Weekend

The CSUN softball team resume action this week when the Matadors travel to the San Diego Classic this week.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN softball team resume action this week when the Matadors travel to the San Diego Classic this week. The Matadors open the tournament Friday morning against Boston University at 11:30 a.m.

The Terriers defeated then No. 1 Oklahoma 4-3 on Feb. 17 at the NM State Troy Cox Classic. After a week off, the Terriers resume action with a 4-4 record. Madi Killebrew is the team's leading hitter at .400. Ali Dubois is 3-2 with 16 strikeouts in 21 innings this season. BU defeated CSUN 3-2 on Feb. 22, 2008 during the University of Houston Marriott Classic in the only previous meeting between the two clubs.

CSUN faces San Diego State Friday night at 7 p.m. The Aztecs are 6-10 after going 3-2 at the Mary Nutter Cathedral City Classic. San Diego State defeated the No. 25 Notre Dame 2-1 last Saturday. Katie Byrd is hitting a team high .302.

Molly Sturdivant has hit four home runs and driven in 14 runs, both club highs. Marissa Moreno has started 12 of the 16 games for the Aztecs this season. She is 2-3 with a 3.00 ERA. This is the 57th meeting between CSUN and San Diego State with the Aztecs leading the all-time series 36-18-1.

The Matadors play two on Saturday. Game 1 will be against Colorado State at 2 p.m.

The Rams are 8-1 after defeating Northern Colorado 9-4 Tuesday afternoon. Colorado State received eight votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll and four votes in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll this week.

Sarah Muzik tops the team in hitting at a .459 clip. Corina Gamboa is hitting .393 with a team high three home runs and seven RBI. Bridgette Hutton is 4-1 with a 2.21 ERA. She has struck out 18 in 31.2 innings. This is the 18th meeting between CSUN and Colorado State with the Matadors leading the all-time series 15-2.

The nightcap is set for 4:30 p.m. against Santa Clara. Taylor Burns' .286 batting average is the best on the team. She has also driven in a team high five runs batted in. Micaela Vierra and Aubree Kim have split the pitching duties this season. This is the 23rd meeting between CSUN and Santa Clara with the Matadors leading the all-time series 20-2.

Hallie Kyler has pitched a team high 53.2 innings this season. She is 4-3 with a 2.61 ERA and 32 strikeouts. This is the 11th meeting between CSUN and San Diego. The Matadors lead the all-time series 8-2.

CSUN traveled to the Mary Nutter Cathedral City Classic last weekend where No. 12/13 Arizona defeated the Matadors 8-0 in the Friday opener. Jillian James carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning against BYU before the Cougars defeated CSUN 8-0 in eight innings to conclude Friday play.

No. 19 California handed the Matadors an 8-0 defeat to begin Saturday action. CSUN would come back and defeat LIU Brooklyn 7-6 to end Saturday's action. The Matadors defeated Fresno State 12-2 to conclude the tournament Sunday afternoon. Megan Stevens homered and drove in five runs during the contest.
