CSUN Splits With No. 5 Oklahoma & Nebraska

FULLERTON, Calif.—CSUN fell to No. 5 Oklahoma before coming back to defeat Nebraska in the first two games of the Cal State Fullerton Easton Invitational Friday.

CSUN-OKLAHOMA
The Sooners scored twice in the top of the second to take the lead before adding one in the fifth. Oklahoma led off the top of the sixth with back to back home runs from Caleigh Clifton and Falepolima Aviu. The Sooners added two more in the sixth to complete the rally.

Paige Parker and Paige Lowary combined on the three-hitter for Oklahoma (20-2). The duo struck out nine. Clifton posted two of the nine Sooners' hits. Megan Stevens posted two of the three CSUN hits including a home run in the bottom of the seventh for the lone Matador tally.

CSUN-NEBRASKA
The Matadors defeated the Huskers 10-5 in Friday's second game. CSUN jumped out to a 3-0 in the top of the first as Kira Cauley singled in Savannah Horvath before coming home on a two-run Stevens home run. Nebraska came back on the bottom of the inning to take the lead on a pair of two-run home runs from Taylor Otte and Tristen Edwards.

The Matadors took the lead in the fourth when Haileigh Gonzalez singled in Pudi Hernandez. Gonzalez later scored on a wild pitch. Raquel Jaime's two-run home run in the top of the sixth extended the advantage to 7-4. Stevens and Jaime each posted an RBI in the sixth. Gonzalez, a junior, capped off the scoring with her first career home run in the seventh. Nebraska added one run in the bottom of the seventh for the final offensive burst of the game.

Gonzalez was 4-for-4 with two runs scored as CSUN outslugged the Huskers 15-11. Horvath, Cauley, and Stevens each tallied two hits. Horvath and Stevens both scored twice. Edwards led Nebraska by going 3-for-3 with two runs batted. The Matadors' victory halted a seven-game Nebraska (18-8) winning streak.

"We played solid softball today," said CSUN head coach Tairia Flowers. "We're making solid steps forward and I'm proud of our team for competing for two games."

CSUN (11-20) complete tournament play Saturday when the Matadors face DePaul at 3:30 p.m. and No. 16/17 Ohio State at 6 p.m.
