NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN concluded a two-match women's tennis swing through the East Coast with a 5-2 victory over George Washington Thursday.
Â
Playing indoors, the Matadors took the doubles point by winning at No. 2 (Alicia Dinkelmeyer and Mari Taslagyan) and No. 3 (Emma Roenholt, Arpe Bagumyan).
Â
The Colonials (6-6) tied the dual by winning at No. 4 before Skyla Alcon won in straight sets at No. 2. Alicia Dinkelmeyer extended the Matadors' lead to 3-1 at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. George Washington closed to 3-2 when Victoria Kogan defeated Bagumyan in three sets at No. 6 singles.
Â
Taslagyan clinched the dual when she defeated Kamilla Beisenova 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Monika Van de Vondel completed the dual with a 5-7, 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles against Melis Bayraktaroglu.
Â
"This was a very big confidence boost for the team against a very good GW team," said CSUN head coach Gary Victor. "Skyla played her best match of the season so far and Monika came back from down match points to persevere. Mari played a great third after struggling in the second. Lissy (Dinkelmeyer) is consistently playing winning tennis even when her best shots aren't there."
Â
The Matadors (3-8) travel to Westmont next Wednesday for a 2:30 p.m. start.
