CSUN Kicks Off Fall Schedule with Impressive Wins in Claremont

CLAREMONT, Calif.---CSUN Women's Tennis kicked off the fall season during a two-day stay at Claremont-Pomona-Pitzer Invitational from Sept. 20-21. The Matadors faced off against Azusa Pacific, Biola, 2025 NCAA Division III runner-up Pomona-Pitzer and host school Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Senior Angela Ho picked up a huge win over last season's Division II national singles winner, Lindsay Eisenman on day one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
On day one, Ho picked up an impressive win against Eisenman from CMS, as she won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Eisenman went 17-6 in 2025, including winning her last eight matches. This was Ho's first match at No.1 singles since the departure of Yuliia Zhytelna, and the senior from San Francisco proved she was more than up to the challenge.

Ho also picked up a win against Pomona-Pitzer. She defeated Nyakiriri Kanefu, 6-4, 6-3.Â

Five other Matadors picked up wins against the Sagehens. Nicole West defeated Meha Chaudhary, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Emma Moratalla Sanz bested Annique Varty 6-4,7-6. Madison Shepperson took down Sofia Kalyva, 7-5, 6-0.

Newcomer Isabella Chavarria won her first match of her Matador career. She beat Tessa Ellingson, 6-4, 6-2. Sofia Dermenjyan finished the job with her victory against Mireille Chedid-Dailey, 6-2, 6-4.

CSUN would also sweep Azusa Pacific on day one as well.

On day two, the top Matador doubles tandem picked up a big win. Ho and West defeated Rebecca Kong and Emily Ing of CMS, 6-2.Â
