NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---Head coach Mark Gottfried has announced the addition of graduate transfer Cameron Gottfried to the CSUN Men's Basketball team. Son of the Matadors' head coach, Gottfried comes to CSUN after stops at Siena College and North Carolina State, and will be eligible to play immediately in the 2018-19 season.Â
"Cameron will be a great addition to our team," said Gottfried. "He's a very intelligent player, shoots the ball really well and is a tremendous rebounder from the guard position. At 23 years old, he brings maturity to the team with the young players we have."
A 6-foot-3 guard, Gottfried began his collegiate career at Siena in 2014-15 where he went on to play two seasons. He saw his first action on the court in the 2015-16 season, playing 22 games for the Saints. Gottfried scored 17 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and knocked down six of his seven shots in under three minutes per game. Off the court, Gottfried excelled in the classroom, earning a spot on the 2016 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.
Â
Following his sophomore campaign, he would transfer to NC State in 2016-17, reuniting with his father in his hometown of Raleigh, N.C. Gottfried spent two seasons with the Wolfpack and earned a degree in business in 2018.Â
Prior to his collegiate career, Gottfried played four years of varsity basketball, first at Gulf Shores High School in Gulf Shores, Ala. then three seasons at Broughton High School in Raleigh. As a senior, Gottfried averaged over 12 points per game as he helped lead the Capitals to the third round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4-A State Championships. He also guided Broughton to the NCHSAA 4-A State Finals in 2012-13.
Gottfried earned a host of awards in his prep career including all-conference and all-district honors, NCHSAA East all star, all-academic all star, the Purple Heart Award and Sixth Man of the Year accolades in his junior season. He also was named team MVP in 2014.Â
A post-graduate student, Gottfried will be studying public administration at CSUN.Â
With the addition of Gottfried, the Matadors have added eight student-athletes to their 2018-19 roster this offseason, which also includes Darius Brown II (Pasadena High School), Brendan Harrick (Esperanza High School), Rodney Henderson (Santiago Canyon College), Elijah Harkless (Etiwanda High School), Avery Martinez (Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School), Teddy Ochieng (Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary School) and Michael Ou (Menaul School).Â
