CSUN Sweeps Cal State Fullerton in Big West Opener
9/18/2018 9:00:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Behind a match-high 15 kills from senior Aeryn Owens, the CSUN Women's Volleyball opened the Big West season with a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-20, 25-14) over Cal State Fullerton in front of 659 fans Tuesday night at The Matadome.
With the win, the Matadors snap a three-match skid and improve to 5-8 overall and 1-0 in the Big West. The loss drops the Titans to 6-7 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
COACH JEFF STORKÂ SAID
"A 3-0 win is nice for our team, we haven't had too many of those this season. I think we're point scoring very well but we're still making way too many errors. It was a good win but it wasn't our best match, this team can play so much better."

SET 1
The Matadors out-hit the visitors .314 to .133 to take the opening set 25-20. After the Titans took an early 4-1 lead, CSUNÂ rolled off a 6-0 run to take the lead for good at 7-4. A Brianna Johnson kill gave the Matadors their largest lead of the set at 15-10 and CSUNÂ matched the lead at 18-13 following a Fullerton hitting error. Trailing 22-16, the visitors rallied late to trim the lead to 23-20. But kills from Erin Indermill and Johnson following a Matador timeout gave CSUN the 25-20 win.
SET 2
The two teams traded sideouts until 7-7 when an Owens kill and an Indermill ace gave CSUN a 9-7 cushion. With the set still tied 18-18, kills from Johnson, Nada Dragovic and Hannah Merjil gave CSUN the lead for good at 21-18 as the Matadors closed the set on a 7-2 run.
