HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Matadors limited to UC Davis to three field goals in the first 6+ minutes, however, all three were from three-point range, keeping the Aggies close as CSUN led 11-9 at the first quarter media timeout. The Matadors would push the lead to 15-11 as the first quarter came to a close.
- Four consecutive turnovers to begin the CSUN second quarter led to a 9-0 UC Davis run, a Matadors' timeout, and a 20-15 Aggies' advantage. Trailing 27-18, CSUN scored the final six points of the first half, capped off by a Claudia Ramos' three-pointer which made the halftime score 27-24 in favor of UC Davis.
- UC Davis connected on 4-of-6 three-point field goal attempts in the third quarter. The Aggies were 7-of-14 from the field, compared to 4-of-15 for the Matadors. UCD outscored CSUN 18-9, pushing out to a 45-33 advantage.
- The Matadors failed to connect on six of their first seven field goal attempts of the fourth quarter as the Aggies pulled out to their largest lead of the game, 50-35 at the 6:32 mark. A Channon Fluker jumper with 54 seconds remaining got the Matadors to within 10 at 58-48, but that would be as close as CSUN would get in the second half.
- Fluker was the lone Matador in double figures. The 6-4 center recorded her 68th career double-double as she scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. She added three steals, three blocks, and two assists.
- Claudia Ramos scored nine points, nabbed seven rebounds, and dished out two assists.
- CSUN committed 15 turnovers (10 UCD steals) in the first half which resulted in 16 UC Davis points. The Matadors turned the ball over seven times in the final 20 minutes.
- CSUN shot 35.1% (20-of-57) for the game from the floor and outrebounded the Aggies 46-29 (16-7 on the offensive glass).
- 12 of the 22 Aggie field goals were from three-point range. UC Davis was 12-of-35 (34.3%) from three, 10-of-24 from inside the arc on the night for a 37.3% shooting performance. The Aggies distributed the ball very well, earning 20 assists on their 22 field goals. UC Davis would conclude the game with 13 steals.
- The Big West's leading scorer, Morgan Bertsch, posted a game high 17. Bertsch added six rebounds, five steals, two assists, and two blocks.
- Nina Bessolo scored 14 points while Karley Eaton had 12. The Eaton twins (Karley and Kourtney) combined for 14 assists (seven each).
- "Hats off to UC Davis. They are a special group. They executed and made their shots. With that being said, early on we did a better job of executing on both ends of the floor. After the first quarter, we didn't force them to take bad shots. They got wide open looks as we were undisciplined on the defensive end of the floor. Give them credit, they made shots. You take that into consideration and the fact we turned the ball over 22 times, that's is not going to beat a good basketball team."
- CSUN travels to Long Beach State (5-12, 2-2 Big West) Saturday.
- Eric Kaback's audio only pre-game show on the CSUN Sports Network presented by Dignity Health gets underway at 3:50 p.m. Tip is set for 4 p.m.
