Matadors Continue Homestand Against UC Santa Barbara

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Soccer (8-4-3, 2-1 Big West) returns to the field on Thursday for a home match against UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available for the match.
The Matadors won their second-straight conference match last Thursday in a 2-0 triumph over Cal Poly. The win marked the team's seventh shutout of the year and the program's 200th all-time victory.
In the third minute on Thursday, junior Gabriella Hinojosa rebounded a shot from fellow junior Bethany Fitzsimmons and tapped in her first career goal. A pair of freshmen teamed up to give CSUN a 2-0 lead in the 27th minute as Cora Willcot found Cindy Arteaga for her first career strike. CSUN's defense would hold on from there as sophomore Amanda Delgado posted two of her three saves in the second half.
With Hinojosa and Arteaga hitting the net, a total of 10 Matadors have scored goals on the year. Sophomore Alexis White still leads the Matadors in goals with five and points with 11, which rank fourth and fifth in the Big West respectively. Fitzsimmons is tied for eighth in the conference in goals with three while she is tied for seventh in points (8) and tied for eighth in assists (2). White and Fitzsimmons are also tied for second in the league with two game-winning goals apiece.
Delgado heads into the week in second place in the Big West in goals-against-average (0.90) while she is tied for second place with four shutouts. She is also third in wins (5) and fourth in saves (41). Delgado is already moving her way up several all-time CSUN Top 10 lists. On the career shutout list, Delgado is in seventh place with seven clean sheets while she ranks eighth in wins (10), ninth in minutes in goal (2,203) and 10th in saves (91).
The Matadors are the conference leader in goals-against-average (0.77) and share the Big West's top spot with Cal State Fullerton in shutouts (7). In the goals department, CSUN is tied for second place with its opponent this week, UC Santa Barbara, at 19 goals scored.
In the all-time series, UCSB leads CSUN 16-9-1. The Gauchos rallied for a 2-1 win at home last season despite a second-half goal from Fitzsimmons. The teams battled to a 1-1 draw in their last meeting at Matador Soccer Field in 2017. Three of the last four meetings have gone into overtime with CSUN scoring golden goals in 2015 (Kourtney Kutscher) and 2016 (Cynthia Sanchez).
A Closer Look at UC Santa Barbara
The Gauchos (6-3-3) are 2-0 in league play after defeating UC Davis 2-1 last Thursday. UCSB has won four of five matches on the road this year with its only defeat coming to nationally-ranked Santa Clara. Head coach Paul Stumpf is in his 21st season at the helm.
Senior Shaelan Murison leads the Big West in goals scored (10) while she is second in points (24) and tied for third in assists (4). Junior Isabella Viana (3), sophomore Jessica Wright (2) and freshman Dylan Lewis (2) have also scored multiple times this season. Senior Hanna DeWeese leads all Big West goalkeepers with a 0.87 GAA and five shutouts.
