FULL GAME NOTES
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Soccer (10-5-3, 4-2 Big West) heads into the final week of the regular season looking to punch its ticket to next week's Big West Tournament. The Matadors wrap up their home schedule on Thursday against Long Beach State at 7 p.m. before traveling to first-place Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both matches will stream live on BigWest.TV.
The Matadors are just three points back of Cal State Fullerton (4-0-3, 15 points) for the top spot in the league and can compete for the regular season title in Sunday's finale should CSUN pick up a win Thursday. UC Santa Barbara and Hawai'i (3-1-2, 11 points) are tied for the third spot in the league. Also in the hunt for the tournament, UC Irvine (3-2-1, 10 points) is just one point out of third place while Long Beach State is in sixth place (2-4, 6 points). In eighth place, Cal Poly (1-3-2, 5 points) is still mathematically alive for the tournament with two matches to play. Seventh-place UC Davis (2-5, 6 points) and UC Riverside (1-5, 3 points) are both eliminated from tournament competition.
The Matadors can clinch a tournament berth with a win Thursday and a UC Irvine tie or loss on Friday at Cal Poly. The top four teams in the league will advance to the Big West Tournament set to begin Thursday, Nov. 7.
On Senior Night last Thursday, the Matadors and UC Irvine played 97 scoreless minutes until a costly handball call on the Anteaters resulted in a CSUN penalty kick. Bethany Fitzsimmons took the PK and scored her fourth of the season to give the Matadors the golden goal win. It was CSUN's fourth-straight victory while it completed a perfect 3-0 homestand.
Three days later, CSUN took an early 1-0 lead on UC Davis after Fitzsimmons' fifth goal of the season in the 12th minute. The Aggies evened the match on a penalty kick in the 35th minute before the teams battled to a standstill for nearly the rest of regulation. The game entered the 82nd minute where UC Davis' Leslie Fregoso scored what would be the game-winner for the Aggies. Sophomore Amanda Delgado tied a season-high in saves with six in defeat.
CSUN comes into this week as the Big West leaders in goals-against-average (0.75) while it shares the league lead with Fullerton in shutouts (9). The Matadors are also ranked third in goals with 22 this season. Individually, Delgado is the league leader in GAA (0.85) and tied for first in shutouts (6) with Cal State Fullerton's Noa Schumacher. Delgado is also tied for second in wins (7) and third in saves (53). On the scoring side, Fitzsimmons and sophomore Alexis White are tied for fourth place with five goals apiece.
The Beach leads the all-time series with the Matadors 14-8-3. Two of the last three meetings have resulted in draws but Long Beach State claimed a 3-1 win last season at George Allen Field. CSUN is winless in seven-straight matches in the series and has not picked up a win over the Beach since Oct. 2013 at home (1-0).
The Titans hold a 15-8-2 record in the head-to-head series with the Matadors. CSUN earned a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the Titans last season at Matador Soccer Field. The Matadors are winless in their last three matches at Titan Stadium, with their last win coming in Oct. 2011 (1-0).
A Closer Look at Long Beach State
Last season's Big West champion, the Beach are 4-11 this season and need a pair of wins this week to stay alive for the conference tournament. After facing the Matadors, LBSU hosts another tournament hopeful in Hawai'i on Sunday. Long Beach State went 1-1 last week, defeating UC Riverside 2-0 before falling to UC Irvine 2-1.
Sophomore Elysia Laramie leads the team with five goals and 10 points on the year while junior Kaylee Ramirez is second in scoring with two goals and two assists. In goal, junior Marta Alemany Sanchez has registered a 1.46 GAA and 41 saves in a team-high 984 minutes.

The Titans come in with an impressive 11-2-4 record, a season after finishing last in the conference standings.
