RICHMOND, Va.---CSUN Men's Basketball (0-5) dropped its Sunday match-up with Richmond 90-62 in the second game of the Roman Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper. FIRST HALF
The Spiders started quickly out of the gate, hitting seven of their first nine shots while capitalizing on two CSUN turnovers to stake to a 16-0 lead. The Matadors fell behind 19-2 before Harrick helped lead a CSUN 8-2 run to trim the deficit to 21-10. Richmond would right the ship though behind strong outside shooting from Nick Sherod and Jacob Gilyard and good inside play to build the lead as high as 39 in the half.
The Spiders executed a 22-0 run to blow the game wide open at 43-10 with 5:58 on the clock. Meanwhile, CSUN went scoreless for over eight minutes and committed eight turnovers over that span to fall into the deep hole. Three Spiders scored in double figures in the half, led by Sherod's 16 points to take a 55-18 advantage into intermission. Richmond shot 66.7 percent in the first half while CSUN struggled at 29.6 percent.
SECOND HALF
The Matadors finally got their offense on track in the early minutes of the second half as Harrick hit a couple of 3-pointers and Jared Pearre scored inside. Out of a media timeout, Gomez hit a long 2-pointer and Ou earned a hard-fought bucket on a putback to bring CSUN within 64-34.
CSUN would miss 10-straight shots at one point in the second half but it followed that up with a 12-0 run, led by Harrick. After a pair of free throws from Gomez, the Matadors pulled to within 85-56. Darius Brown II created a turnover in the final minute leading to an easy bucket on the other end to cap a bounce-back second-half for the Matadors. CSUN outscored Richmond 44-35 in the final 20 minutes but the Spiders would still prevail by 28 points.
