NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN head women's basketball coach Jason Flowers has announced the signing of Rochelle Fourie, Paetynn Gray, and Rachel Harvey to a National Letters of Intent to continue their playing career with the Matadors.
"We are extremely excited about the three young women that will be joining our program next year," Flowers said. "They are all bright, well rounded young women who have outstanding foundations because of their background. All three will have an outstanding impact on CSUN, on the court, as well as our campus community."
Fourie comes to Northridge from the Manukura School in Palmerston North, New Zealand. She earned the Manawatu Sports' award, Supreme Girls award, and Sports Woman of the Year in 2019. The 6-3 post player was the basketball code winner for Manawatu in 2018 and 2019 and is a three-time Manukura Basketball Player of the Year for (2017-19). Fourie was awarded the ASB Sports Basketball player of the year in 2016. Fourie was a member of the U-17 and U-19 New Zealand National Teams. She was a member of the tournament team for the New Zealand secondary school nationals from 2017-19.
"Rochelle is a physical, athletic post player with great hands, who rebounds and finishes around the basket," said Flowers. "Despite being a member of several national teams, we believe she is just starting to scratch the surface of her potential."
Gray, a 6-2 wing, enters the CSUN program from Cedar Ridge High School in Round Rock, Texas. Gray was chosen second-team All-District 13-6A as a junior. She averaged 7.8 points per game, shot 78% from the free-throw line and 32% from three-point range. She played for the AD Elite Club program.
"Paetynn possesses a great combination of size and skill," Flowers said. "We expect her to bring versatility to our lineup, on both ends of the floor. She has the opportunity to develop into a player who can impact the game in every aspect."
Harvey, a 5-7 guard, will join the Matadors from St Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco. Harvey was named second-team All-WCAL as a sophomore and as a junior. She was selected honorable mention San Francisco Chronicle All-Metro on two occasions and honorable mention San Francisco Examiner All-City as a sophomore and as a junior. Harvey earned third-team All-CCS honors as junior and honorable mention honors as a sophomore. She attended the USA U17 National Team Trials in Colorado Springs during her sophomore year.
"Rachel is a competitor," said Flowers. "She is a skilled guard who can create shots for herself and her teammates. She has a good feel for the game, possessing a poise beyond her years. She is also a good defender who brings toughness to the end of the floor."
CSUN travels to the Pacific Tiger Turkey Tip-Off Nov. 29-30. Competition begins on Friday against SMU at 2 p.m.
