Matadors Drop a Pair Saturday at LSU Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. - The CSUN Softball team ran into some stellar pitching Saturday as the Matadors were blanked by Michigan and LSU in consecutive games at the LSU Invitational at Tiger Park.
The Matadors, who received a no-hitter from sophomore Jillian James in splitting a pair of games on Friday, were no-hit by Michigan to open Saturday's action before getting a pair of hits in the loss to the host Tigers.Â
GAME 1
FINAL SCORE: Michigan 8, CSUN 0
LOCATION: Tiger Park - Baton Rouge, La.
RECORDS: Michigan 6-7, CSUN 4-7
HOW IT HAPPENED
• James got off to a good start against the Wolverines who left the bases loaded in the second as the game was scoreless after two innings.Â
• Michigan scored the game's first run in the top of the third as Natalie Peters singled, stole second and came around to score on a base hit by Lexis Blair.
• In the fourth inning, the Wolverines scored twice with two outs. Blair reached on an error by Kiarra Crockett-Pope which scored both Peters and Natalia Rodriguez.
• Michigan then scored another unearned run in the fifth before sending nine batters to the plate in a four-run seventh.
• Meghan Beaubien struck out seven Matadors while walking two in tossing the no-hitter for the Wolverines.

LOCATION: Tiger Park - Baton Rouge, La.
RECORDS: LSU 12-3, CSUN 4-8
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Jessica Alexander and Kenedee Jamerson had CSUN's only hits in the second game against the host Tigers.
• CSUN used four pitchers as Jamerson started and went 2.1 innings followed by Taylor Troost, Elise Madison and James. Jamerson would take the loss after surrendering four runs on five hits.
• The Tigers got on the board early as they collected three hits off Jamerson which led to two runs.
• LSU then tacked on a pair of runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings as the Tigers wound up with nine hits in the game.
• LSU starter Ali Kilponen picked up the win as she struck out five while limiting CSUN to just the two hits.
