Matadors Win a Pair at Bakersfield Tri-Dual

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The CSUN Beach Volleyball team evened its season record at 5-5 after picking up a pair of tri-dual wins Saturday at CSU Bakersfield's Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex.
The Matadors swept Marymount University in Saturday's opener, 5-0 as CSUN won all 10 sets over the Mariners. The Matadors then extended their season-long winning streak to three straight with a 3-2 win over the host Roadrunners.
CSUN 5, MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY 0
The tri-dual got underway with CSU Bakersfield defeating Marymount, 4-1 before the Matadors took to the sand and claimed all 10 sets in the 5-0 win over the Mariners. In posting its second 5-0 win of the season, CSUN did not drop a set.Â
Darbi Honeycutt and Mikaela Maughan took a straight-set (21-17, 21-17) decision over Brooke Horack and Landry Armstrong at No. 2 to earn their their fifth consecutive win and team-leading sixth victory of the season. Taylor Brydon and Lauren McMurray then won 21-17, 21-6 over Madison Hallen and Elizabeth Steubs to make it 2-0 CSUN.Â
The Matadors then clinched the dual in the second flight of matches as Daniella Molinari and Seyvion Waggoner snapped a six-match skid with a 21-18, 21-17 win over Aiko Waters and Jaylyn Porras at No. 1. Nicole Nevarez and Lexi McLeod won their second straight, defeating Alysa Wertz and Jordan Manuel 21-11, 21-11 at No. 3 before Cassidy Rosso and Kailey Klein made quick work of Lauren Addington and Mariana Tuner, 21-7, 21-9 at No. 5 to complete the sweep.

The Matadors then avenged an earlier 4-1 loss to the Roadrunners in Malibu (Mar. 2) by taking three of the five matches Saturday to improve their season record to 5-5.
CSUB won the top two pairs on Saturday as Mattison DeGarmo and Briannah Mariner snapped the five-match win streak of Honeycutt and Maughan who moved up to the No. 1 spot for just the second time this season. The Roadrunners came back after dropping set one to claim a 14-21, 21-17, 15-11 win. Molinari and Waggoner played in the No. 2 spot against CSUB, falling to Cameron Solberg and Milica Vukobrat, 21-19, 21-15.
The Matadors clinched the dual win with wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5. Brydon and McMurray matched Honeycutt and Maughan with their sixth win of the season, defeating Sidney Wicks and Hana Makonova, 21-16, 21-12 at No. 3. Nevarez and McLeod evened their pairs record at 5-5 with a 21-13, 21-13 sweep over Brooke Boiseau and Krista Hernandez at No. 4 before CSUN claimed the victory as Rosso and Klein defeated the Roadrunner pair of Emily Hansen and Ally Barber, 21-15, 21-13 at No. 5.
