Meet CSUN's Under Armour Faculty
11/30/2020 9:31:00 AM | General
The CSUN Under Armour Faculty are a group of professors and lecturers committed to assisting student-athletes in their academic success and professional development. The group was started in 2016 by Professor and Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Ed Jackiewicz and has since grown to nearly 30 faculty members from various majors across campus.
Â
Over the past few years, this group has assisted students through workshops, panel discussions, game attendance and one-on-one conversations. They are here to help you, the students. In the coming months, GoMatadors.com will introduce you to the various members of CSUN's UA Faculty.
Â
Dr. Elizabeth Parke
Assistant Professor – Kinesiology Department
Clinical Education Coordinator – Athletic Training Program
PhD. University of HawaiiÂ
Research areas:Â knee biomechanics, osteoarthritis, and post-operative function of patients undergoing total or partial knee arthroplasty.
I was born and raised in Michigan and love to watch and play all sports.  I knew from a pretty early age that I wanted to go into the medical field, so when I came across the Athletic Training Profession in high school, I knew I had found my calling.  It combined my love of sports and passion for helping people.
I attended Hope College and received my Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training while I played soccer for Hope.  I then pursued my Master's Degree at the University of Utah, while I was a graduate assistant Athletic Trainer for the football team.  I spent the next six years of my professional life as the Head Football Athletic Trainer at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC.  I met my husband Matt and we moved and spent four years in Virginia.  We then moved to Hawaii where I pursued my PhD from the University of Hawai'i because I knew that I wanted to teach in an Athletic Training Program, which has led me to CSUN.  In my spare time I enjoy watching sports, hiking and traveling with my husband.
Â
Since I have transitioned into academia, I certainly miss the daily interaction with athletes and being a part of a team, which is a benefit to being a clinical Athletic Trainer.  Being a part of the Under Armour Faculty Committee allows me to get to know our Matador student-athletes through various interactions, which I absolutely love.  My husband and I love to attend CSUN Athletics events, and because of this committee, I now get to know the student-athletes personally as we cheer them on.  As a former collegiate athlete myself, I also can relate to the challenges, and rewards our student-athletes are facing daily and I admire the hard work, dedication and success they experience as athlete.  I am looking forward to cheering you all on again, someday, soon hopefully.
Stay safe and go Matadors!!!
