NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---Former CSUN Men's Basketball forward and two-time Big West Player of the Year Lamine Diane inked a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, the team announced on Dec. 3. Diane was invited to the 76ers training camp, which began on Sunday.
Originally from Dakar, Senegal, Diane completed one of the most decorated careers in Matador history earlier in the year. A two-year letterwinner, Diane earned his second-straight Big West Player of the Year award and All-Big West First Team selection after averaging 25.6 points and 10.2 rebounds in 19 games in 2019-20. Diane also received NABC District IX All-First Team honors. Diane proved to be a difference-maker in many areas as he averaged 2.8 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 48.0 percent from the field. He posted 11 double-doubles on the year and registered seven 30-point games. His scoring average would have been third in the nation had he played in enough games to qualify.
Diane would also have a historic freshman season with the Matadors in 2018-19 as he became the first player to earn the Big West Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards in the same season in league history. He also took home AP All-American Honorable Mention accolades, becoming the second Matador in their Division I history to earn that distinction. Diane led the nation in field goals made (340) that season while he ranked sixth in points per game (24.8) and rebounds per game (11.2). Across all of Division I basketball, Diane was the only player to average above 24 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks per game (2.2) while also shooting an impressive 48.5 percent from the floor.
This past season, Diane became the fastest Matador in team history to register 1,000 points, doing so in 40 games. He also holds many other distinctions in Matador history including the career record holder in points per game (25.1) and single-season record holder in points, (818, 2018-19), scoring average (25.6, 2019-20), field goals made (340, 2018-19), rebounds (368, 2018-19) and blocked shots (72, 2018-19). Diane left CSUN second in team history in career blocks (110), fourth in double-doubles (31), sixth in field goals made (516) and ninth in points (1,304).
