SAN DIEGO, Calif.—San Diego swept CSUN in a doubleheader to complete the San Diego Tournament Sunday afternoon.
GAME 1
- San Diego defeated CSUN 2-1 to get the day underway.
- Sara Silveyra led off the bottom of the first for the Toreros with a double. She advanced to third on a Hayley Hensley infield single. Madison Casiano singled to center to drive in both Silveyra and Hensley to give San Diego the game's only runs.
- Megan Stevens hit her sixth home run of the season with two outs in the top of the sixth to make it 2-1. Casiano opened the bottom of the sixth with a walk. She moved up a base when Sophi Bjerk singled. Rion Simms popped up trying to lay down a sac bunt for the first out. Lauren Hendrickson lined out to left. Jilian James struck out Kelli Kufta to end the inning.
- Dela Heller limited CSUN to just two hits both of which were recorded by Stevens. Stevens was 3-for-3 and was a triple away from hitting for the cycle.
- Kira Cauley had her 16-game hitting streak snapped in the game as she went 0-3. Her streak was the second-longest by a CSUN player since the program moved to Division I in 1991.
GAME 2
- The Toreros (15-12) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to defeat CSUN 4-3 in the nightcap.
- Stevens led off the CSUN fourth with a double. Jaymi Steward successfully sacrificed Stevens to third with a bunt. Journey Rojas grounded out to San Diego pitcher Madison Earnshaw, but Stevens was able to score on the play.
- Jamerson hit Casiano with a pitch to begin the Toreros' fourth. Bjerk tied the game when she doubled in Casiano and took third on the throw. Bjerk taking the base was fruitful as she came home on a Simms ground out for the lead.
- Hendrickson singled. She was replaced by pinch-runner Savannah Shields. Shields advanced to second when Kufta singled. Shields was aggressive on the basepaths, taking third on the throwback into the infield. James replaced Jamerson in the circle and got Santiago to pop out on a bunt attempt. Elisa Princic flew out to conclude the frame. Â
- Stevens doubled with one out in the top of the sixth. Earnshaw walked Steward which resulted in a pitching change and Courtney Rose coming on in relief. Rose's first batter was Rojas who singled to left to drive in Stevens. Steward advanced to third as Rojas took second on the play. Alyssa Vazquez reached on a fielder's choice as USD tried to throw Steward out at home. She was credited with an RBI on the play as Rojas went to third. The Toreros got the next two outs to keep it a one-run game.
- James hit Kufta with a pitch two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Sanitago worked the count to 3-2 before grounding out to short for the final out of the inning.
- Silveyra singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Hensley was hit by a James pitch. Casiano was also hit by a pitch to load the bases. With the count 1-2, Bjerk singled up the middle to drive in Silveyra and Hensley for the game-winning runs. Â
