NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN head softball coach Charlotte Morgan has announced the signing of Allie Gardiner to a National Letter of Intent to continue her playing career with the Matadors. Gardiner will enroll at CSUN during the semester break that is coming up.
"I am looking forward to adding depth and experience to the pitching staff with Allie," Morgan said.
Gardiner is a graduate transfer after earning her undergraduate degree from UT Arlington where Morgan recruited and coached her for one season. Gardiner led the Sun Belt
Conference in 2021 in saves with five after leading the Mavericks in appearances with 32. She went 3-3 with a 4.09 ERA and struck out 33 in 63.1 innings.
A 13-strikeout performance in a shutout victory over Abilene Christian highlighted Gardiner's 2020 COVID-19 shortened season. She went 4-0 with two saves and a 2.54 ERA. Her ERA was the ninth best in the Sun Belt Conference.
As a freshman, Gardiner pitched in 43 of the 63 UTA games and was the winning pitcher for the Mavericks in the National Invitational Softball Championship game. The 5-6 right hander led the Sun Belt and was eighth in Division I in saves with eight. She posted a 2.88 ERA, a team-best, and sixth lowest in the Sun Belt Conference.
A 2018 graduate of Yorba Linda High School, Gardiner struck out 188 in 142 innings as a senior on her way to leading Yorba Linda to the Crestview League title. For her efforts, she was named Crestview League Pitcher of the Year and first-team All-League. She struck out 179 in 163 innings as a junior.
"I am excited to get the chance to work with Allie once again and bring her back to her home state," said Morgan. "Allie is going to bring leadership, experience, and a strong mindset as a pitcher to this team. She has one of the strongest mindsets and mental toughness that I have coached in my career. I can't wait to get her here and joined into the Matador Family in the Spring."
Gardiner joins Mikayla Carman, Kylie Galindo, Alexis Garcia, Ariel Gomez, Alexa Landeros, Alexis Martinez, Vinessa Nunez, Kennedi Sorensen, Mia Stankiewicz, and Daisey Tinsley in the 2022 recruiting class. Alexis Lemus and Jaclyn Silva signed with CSUN in the Winter of 2021 and began their Matador playing careers in March of 2021.
