Matadors Host Antelope Valley Tuesday Night

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN Women's Basketball team closes out the non-conference portion of the 2021-22 schedule Tuesday night when the Matadors (3-6) host the University of Antelope Valley. The action begins at 6 p.m. on ESPN+ and GoMatadors.com/radio with Jill Painter-Lopez on the call. All links are on GoMatadors.com.

The University of Antelope Valley is 3-8 after falling 79-57 in a Saturday game against William Jessup. Antelope Valley has played two other Division I schools including UC Riverside which defeated the Pioneers 88-39 on Dec. 16 in Riverside. Playing teams from all three NCAA Divisions, the NAIA, and the NCCAA in 2021-22, Tuesday night will be an exhibition for Antelope Valley.

Krystin Allen is UAV's leading scorer as she is averaging 14.7 points per game. She also leads the team in rebounds (4.1) and steals (28). Tanika Stephenson is second on the team in scoring as she is averaging 12.9 points per game and rebounding (3.5). Tuesday will be the first time CSUN and UAV are playing women's basketball.

The Matadors dropped a 76-51 decision on Dec. 15 at USC. Tess Amundsen was the Matadors' leading scorer with 14 points against the Women of Troy. The CSUN defense continues to make life hard for the opponent. The Matadors have forced 155 turnovers this season. Matador opponents have turned the ball over at least 15 times in eight of the nine CSUN games this season including 17 against USC.

CSUN is fourth in the Big West and 64th in Division I in steals per game (10.1). The 91 steals that the Matadors have posted are 115th in Division I to begin the week.

Anaiyah Tu'ua and Sydney Woodley are leading the team in steals with 21. Both are ranked 87th (2.33) in steals per game in Division I in the category this week. Tu'ua has broken into the top 100 in Division I in assist-to-turnover ratio this week as she is 98th (1.93).
