UC Santa Barbara Defeats CSUN 2-0
5/15/2021 4:11:00 PM | Softball
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—UC Santa Barbara's Emily Schuttish came within one strike of a no-hitter as the Gauchos defeated the Matadors 2-0 in the regular season softball finale Saturday afternoon.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Schuttish went to a 1-2 count against Paloma Usquiano before Usquiano singled cleanly up the middle. Usquiano took second on an error by UCSB center fielder Tyler Goldstein. Schuttish struck out seven, walked two, and hit one batter as she faced four above the minimum.
The Gauchos (15-31, 12-12 Big West) scored both of their runs in the top of the second. Ally Nodohara drove in Lauren Lewis with a single up the middle. Ashley Donaldson's sacrifice fly plated Teah Thies. Thies, Nodohara, and McNally combined for six of the eight UCSB hits (two each).
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH CHARLOTTE MORGAN
"UC Santa Barbara did a great job keeping us off the bases and got the right hit to get on the board. We have to keep making quicker adjustments in the batter's box and we have to get back to the drawing board and start preparing for next year now. I am proud of our team and fighting and competing until the end of this year. We had low numbers but I am proud that we were able to not miss a game and compete till the end. We are excited for our game tomorrow against Team USA and play against the best in our game."
