NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN head softball coach Charlotte Morgan has announced the signing of Mikayla Carman to a National Letter of Intent to continue her playing career with the Matadors.
A 2021 Magna Cum Ladue (over 4.0 GPA) graduate of Huntington Beach High School, Carman was named first-team All-League and Sunset League Offensive Player of the Year after hitting .475 with nine home runs and 30 RBI as a senior. She posted 25 runs scored, a .921 slugging percentage, and a .504 on-base percentage after only striking out twice on the season.
Carman was awarded Huntington Beach High's Scholar-Athlete Award for the third consecutive season in 2021. She also earned the President's Award for Academic Excellence, California Seal of Biliteracy, Roy Miller Commitment Award, and Scholars with Honors.
A three-time Academic All-Conference selection, Carman's Huntington Beach High School team won the Sunset League during her senior season. Huntington Beach High made the CIF semifinals during her sophomore year and the CIF quarterfinals during her freshman year after she moved up to the varsity. As of May 18, 2021, her team was ranked No. 1 in Orange County, No. 5 in CIF-SS, and No. 7 in the state of California. When the 2020 season was suspended by the COVID-19 crisis, HBHS was ranked No. 3 in the state.
"Mikayla is a two-way player, she can play first and outfield," Morgan said. "She is bringing her bat into our lineup and we have seen it just explode over the past couple of months. She has been putting in the work during the last year and what she has been doing is starting to pay off, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been awesome watching her power number explode during high school season and I can't wait to see what she brings to the Matador family."
Carman joins Kylie Galindo, Alexis Garcia, Ariel Gomez, Alexis Martinez, and Daisey Tinsley in the 2022 recruiting class. Alexis Lemus and Jaclyn Silva signed with CSUN in the Winter of 2021 and began their Matador playing careers in March of 2021.
