NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN head softball coach Charlotte Morgan has announced the signing of Mia Stankiewicz to a National Letter of Intent to continue her playing career with the Matadors.
"We are very excited about the addition of Mia to our Matador Family," Morgan said.
Stankiewicz joins the Matadors after earning 2021 NJCAA Division II first-team All-American honors for South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, Ariz. A 2021 first-team All-Conference and All-Region selection, Stankiewicz hit .575 with 58 runs scored, 18 doubles, five triples, 18 home runs, 67 RBI, 21 stolen bases, and 23 walks last season.
Stankiewicz was the national leader in on-base (.650) and slugging percentage (1.294) a year ago. She was named NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week honors on Mar. 10, 2021, after batting .714 (10-of-14) with eight runs, 11 RBIs, two home runs, four doubles, two triples, and five stolen bases in wins over Paradise Valley CC and Eastern Arizona College.
Stankiewicz began her collegiate playing career at Phoenix College in 2020 where she hit .231 during the COVID-19 shortened season. A 2019 graduate of Gilbert High School, she was named second-team All-Conference. In 85 career prep games, she hit .288 with six home runs and 47 RBI.
"On top of her offensive prowess, she is an outstanding shortstop with a great skill set," Morgan said. "She has tremendous footwork and feel for the game. Her softball IQ along with her skill set is what will make her a difference-maker for our team."
The daughter of Andy and Maria Ana Stankiewicz, her father is the head baseball coach at Grand Canyon University and is a former major league baseball player who played seven years in the major leagues, most notably for the New York Yankees.
Mia's sister Marisa was a four-year letter winner in softball for Arizona State and helped the Sun Devils reach the Women's College World Series in 2018. Marisa is currently the Director of Softball Operations at Grand Canyon. Her brother Drew played baseball at Arizona State before beginning a professional career that saw him reach the AAA level. Her brother Dane just completed a collegiate baseball career playing for their father at Grand Canyon as the Antelopes made the NCAA Division I Tournament for the first time in 2021.
"She comes from a family that has produced a long line of infielders," Morgan said. "Mia will have an immediate impact on our program both on and off the field. We are excited to welcome her and her family on board and can't wait to see what the future holds for her and the Matador Softball program moving forward."
Stankiewicz joins Mikayla Carman, Kylie Galindo, Alexis Garcia, Ariel Gomez, Alexis Martinez, and Daisey Tinsley in the 2022 recruiting class. Alexis Lemus and Jaclyn Silva signed with CSUN in the Winter of 2021 and began their Matador playing careers in March of 2021.
