Matadors To Host California Baptist & Portland

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN hosts a pair of upcoming men's soccer matches as the Matadors welcome California Baptist and Portland to Northridge.

CSUN takes on CBU Friday night. The kick is set for 6 p.m. Coverage will be on ESPN+ with Ghizal Hasan on the call. Audio coverage will also be available on GoMatadors.com/radio

California Baptist is in its fourth season of transition up to Division I. The CSUN match marks the second-to-last non-conference game for CBU as Western Athletic Conference play gets underway on Sept. 25.

The Lancers are 3-1-1 after dropping a 3-2 decision to Gonzaga last week in Spokane. Brian Gonzales has a team-leading three goals which have resulted in a team-high six points. Gage Rogers is 2-1-1 in goal for the Lancers. He has made five saves and has posted a 1.55 goals-against average. This is the first meeting between the two clubs.

Portland comes to town Monday night for a 7:30 p.m. start. Coverage will again be on ESPN+ with Hasan on the call. Audio coverage is available at GoMatadors.com/radio.

Portland is 4-2 before a Sept. 17 match against Seattle University. The Pilots have won all four of their matches via shutout including a 1-0 victory Monday night against Sacramento State.

Pilots' goalie George Tasouris is 1-of-5 Division I goalkeepers to have recorded four shutouts this season and are the national leaders. Tasouris' save percentage of .880 is 19th in Division I and his 3.87 saves per game average is 71st in D-1.

Portland has scored five goals in six matches this season with five different players notching two points. This is the fourth meeting between the two clubs with Portland holding a 2-1 series advantage.

CSUN dropped a pair of one-goal matches last week. The Matadors lost 2-1 to No. 11 Loyola Marymount Sept. 9 in Los Angeles. Giovanni Aguilar scored the lone Matador goal against the Lions. CSUN fell 1-0 in overtime to Omaha Sept. 12. David Preys made six saves in the loss for the Matadors.
