SAN DIEGO—The CSUN women's tennis team will be represented in the finals of three singles and two doubles brackets at the San Diego State Fall Classic I as play continued Saturday at the Aztec Tennis Center.
Victoria Santibañez Luna advanced to the finals of the Red bracket via default over Long Beach State's Rhona Cook.
In the Black bracket, Emma Moratalla Sanz moved to the finals when she defeated San Diego State's Alexandria Von Tersch Pohrer 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.
Vitoria Solis fell in the other semi of the Black bracket as she dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Cal State Fullerton's Kaylin Taylor.
Angela Ho went to three sets for the second consecutive day in the Gray bracket semifinals. Ho came from behind to defeat Long Beach State's Sheena Masuda 5-7
In the Red doubles bracket, Sasha Turchak and Cindy Ung made it to the finals after defeating Natalie Duffy and Diana Yanotoskaya of Cal State Fullerton 6-2.
Ho and Santibañez Luna moved onto the finals of the Black doubles bracket as the pair posted a 6-4 victory over Cal State Fullerton's Megan Taglanda and Kaytlin Taylor.
Solis and Yuliia Zhytelna were edged out in the other Black doubles semifinal. The CSUN duo lost 7-5 to a team from Cal State Fullerton.
PLAYER REACTION
"I thought I played a very good match in both doubles and singles," Sanz said. "I felt very comfortable playing aggressively. I appreciated how much support I got from my teammates, especially in the third set of my singles match. It helped a lot to keep believing in myself and win the match. Overall, my teammates and I fought our best."
"I felt our team had great energy today," said Sofia Dermenjyan (who defeated Eve Daniels 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 on Saturday). "During my match, I was able to control the points and rallies with my forehand. I think in the second set, I started to slow down and was getting frustrated with my errors. I was able to compose myself and play an aggressive and cleaner game in the third. Overall, I am happy with the win."
