Gachet in Top-20, CSUN 12th After One Round at Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. - The CSUN men's golf team posted an opening round even-par 284 on Thursday and is 12th place after day one of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational at the Stockton Golf and Country Club.
11 teams are under par after 18 holes as the Matadors are just three shots out of the top-five. Grand Canyon is the team leader at 11-under 273 followed by UC San Diego (274), Fresno State (275), San Jose State (277) and Washington State (277) rounds out the top-five in the 16-team field.
Senior Paul-Louis Gachet is the low Matador through 18 holes after firing a season-low 2-under 69. Gachet was 2-under through four holes after an eagle at No. 2 and a birdie at No. 4. He remained 2-under through seven holes before three bogeys over his next five holes dropped him back to 1-over. Three birdies on his final six holes brought the CSUN senior back to 2-under on the day.
Gachet heads into the second round just four shots behind UC Irvine's Jin Nakao and UC San Diego's Davis McDowell who share the lead at 6-under 65.

"We got off to pretty good start but overall It was a frustrating day. We didn't kill our chances, we're only three shots out of the top-five but we've got to play better as a team. We know we're capable of shooting a low round tomorrow."Â
The Matadors will be paired with Idaho and UC Riverside for the second round which gets underway Friday at 9:24 a.m.

- Thomas Burou, competing as an individual, is also tied for 16th at 2-under 69. Burou notched four birdies and 12 pars on Thursday.
- Nick Fowlkes is also under par after one round, sitting in a tie for 27th at 1-under 70. Fowlkes had a pair of birdies on the front nine before making the turn at 2-over. He then  fired five birdies over his final six holes to get to 1-under for the round.
- Eirik Thomassen is tied for 52nd at 1-over 72 after posting four birdies on Thursday.
- Felix Schrott, coming off a win at CSUN's Bill Cullum Invitational last week, is tied for 60th at 2-over 73 followed by Brandon McDonough who is tied for 71st at 3-over 74.
