Matadors Fire Second Round 278 to Move Into Top-10 at Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. - The CSUN men's golf team fired a season-low round of 278 on Friday as Paul-Louis Gachet moved into the top-10 and Felix Schrott moved into the top-20 after two rounds of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational at the Stockton Golf and Country Club.
After carding a team round of 284 on Thursday, the Matadors posted one of the low team rounds of the day Friday, moving up from 12th to 10th at 6-under 562. Grand Canyon continues to hold the team lead at 18-under 550 with UC Irvine four shots back at 14-under 554. 16 teams are competing in the tournament.
Gachet, who was the low Matador through 18 holes after firing a season-low 2-under 69, improved by another shot Friday finishing at 3-under 68. Gachet was 2-under after his opening nine holes before carding a birdie and eight pars over his final nine to move to 3-under. At 5-under 137, Gachet heads into the final round five shots behind George Washington's Jakub Hrinda who holds the lead at 10-under 132.
Thomas Burou, competing as an individual who's score doesn't count in the CSUN team scoring, also fired his low round of the season Friday with a 4-under 67. In posting his season-low round of the season, Burou played his opening nine holes at 2-under before an eagle three at No. 2 moved him to 4-under. After a double bogey at No. 3, Burou finished with four pars and a pair of bogeys to finish the day at 4-under which moved him into a tie for fifth at 6-under 136.

"We had a couple guys shoot low rounds and I felt like we were close to having a really low team round today. We missed some putts that would have put us even lower but we're feeling like we can put another good round tomorrow and crack the top five."Â
The Matadors will be paired with UC San Diego and UC Riverside for the final round which gets underway Saturday at 9:24 a.m.

CSUNÂ SCORES
- Felix Schrott fired a CSUN season-low 66 on Friday to move up from 60th into a tie for 20th at 3-under 139. Schrott had blistering front nine that saw him post five birdies and three pars. He would get as low as 6-under after his sixth birdie of the day at No. 2 before a bogey at No. 5 dropped him to 5-under for the day and 3-under for the tournament.Â
- Nick Fowlkes followed up a 1-under round of 70 on Thursday with a 3-over 74 on Friday and is currently tied for 52nd at 2-over 144.
- Brandon McDonough finished Friday at even-par 71 to move up into a tie for 58th at 3-over 145 and Eirik Thomassen is also tied with McDonough in 58th after a 2-over 73 in round two.
