Coetzee & Ho Advance to Round of 16 at ITA SW Regionals

SAN DIEGO—The CSUN women's tennis team continued to play at the ITA Southwest Regionals on Friday. All the Matadors' matches were played on the San Diego State campus.
DOUBLES
Jolene Coetzee and Angela Ho defeated UCLA's Fangran Tian and Ava Catanzarite 8-6 to advance to the round of 16. The Bruins fought off seven match points before Coetzee and Ho were able to prevail. Catanzarite, a sophomore, was ranked as high as No. 23 in the ITA Doubles rankings last season.
Victoria Santibañez Luna and Cindy Ung fell 8-5 to the No. 3 seed, San Diego's Elizabeth Goldsmith, and Kailey Evans on Friday. Colling and Goldsmith are the USD doubles team that is tied with one other duo for 37th in the preseason ITA Top 60 rankings.
Sasha Turchak and Yuliia Zhytelna dropped an 8-5 decision to the No. 2 seed, Domenika Turkovic and Patricija Spaka of Arizona State.
SINGLES
CSUN took part in extra singles matches that were played later Friday. CSUN took part in extra singles matches that were played later Friday. Zhytelna and Ho picked up wins against Power-5 opponents. Zhytelna defeated Natasha Hill of Arizona State 6-3, 6-1 while Ho defeated UCLA's Caroline Goldberg 6-3, 6-2. Turchak handed UC Irvine's Nour Khayat a 6-3, 6-2 defeat. Consolation play will continue on Saturday.

"Jojo and I played extremely well today in our doubles match," Ho said. "I was able to handle the pressure and stay aggressive at the net. Our communication was on point and I'm very proud of the way we played. It was a great match and UCLA was able to fight off seven match points, but we were able to stay focused and eventually close out the match."
"I am very happy with our performance today. We focused on what we could control and kept the intensity high the whole time."
