NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN softball team opened the Fall schedule this past week with a pair of 10-inning games against Cal State Dominguez Hills and Fresno State.
"I think we saw a lot of good things from our team this past weekend," said CSUN head coach Charlotte Morgan. "Both teams we faced brought some great competition."
GAME 1 vs Cal State Dominguez Hills
CSUN defeated the Toros 11-0 to begin Fall play. The Matadors scored twice in the first, twice in the second, five in the third, one in the fifth, and once in the 10th inning.
Carys Murakami posted a single, a walk, and scored twice. Mikayla Carman keyed one of the scoring rallies with a double that cleared the bases and drove in two runs. Mia Cortez posted a double and a run scored. Samantha Kwiatkowski and Macy Mohrlock both posted RBIs. The CSUN pitching staff allowed only seven hits over the 10 innings of action.
"Our team really came out of the gate hard against Dominguez Hills and played well on both sides of the ball," Morgan said. "We had some great timely hitting, some great defense, and strong pitching. The pitchers did a great job setting the tempo for the team and everyone did a great job rolling with that. We have a lot of moving pieces and we got to see a lot of different options."
GAME 2 vs Fresno State
The Matadors fell behind 5-0 before Maddie Padilla's sac fly in the bottom of the fifth got CSUN on the board. The Matadors tied the score with a four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth that was keyed by posting three consecutive walks. The Bulldogs would pull out a 6-5 victory on a home run in the top of the 10th.
"Fresno State came out and jumped on the board early," Morgan said. "I thought they did a great job from the start. Being a young team, we are still learning to find out identity. It is great to play another Division I opponent in the Fall. They tested us in different areas that as a team we need to continue to learn and grow from."

"We were tested our first weekend out and we were able to work on a lot of things that we have done in practice," said Morgan. "I am excited for the rest of our Fall and what this team will do and find out our identity as a team."
