NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN softball team continued Fall action this past Saturday with a doubleheader against Cal State San Marcos.
The Cougars, who advanced to the 2022 NCAA Division II Super Regionals, scored four runs in the top of the third to defeat the Matadors 4-2 in the opener. Maiya Alemania drove in both CSUN runs with a triple in the bottom of the sixth.
"San Marcos did a great job coming out and jumping on the board early," said CSUN head coach Charlotte Morgan. "They competed and really pushed us."
The Matadors defeated Cal State Marcos 6-3 in the nightcap. CSUN jumped on the board with four runs in the bottom of the second. The Cougars scored three times in the top of the third before Macy Mohrlock drove in Mia Stankiewicz with a triple in the bottom of the fourth. Raegan Jackson capped off the scoring with an RBI double that plated Breli Agbayani Shibao in the fifth.
"I thought it was a good all-around learning experience for our team. "We did some things better in the second game, but we must continue to stay hungry and keep competing when things aren't going our way."
The Fall schedule ends this weekend. The Matadors host Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader before wrapping up play on Sunday with a 1 p.m. single game against Fullerton College.
