Both CSUN teams in the Black doubles flight moved onto the semifinals. Turchak and Zhytelna handed UC Irvine's Jenna Schlatter and Alyssia Fossorier a 6-3 defeat. Jolene Coetzee and Ho won 6-4 against Grand Canyon's Natasha Puehse and Santa Strombacha.
Solis and Harper earned a spot in the semifinals of the Gold flight when they defeated Dania Deaifi and Anali Kocevar 6-2 of Grand Canyon.
ACCORDING TO HEAD COACH GARY VICTOR
"It was great to have Jolene back on the court for the first time in a long time. We had great performances from the team. They have a special synergy."
PLAYER REACTION
"I played one of my best matches today. It was an amazing day for the whole team!" said Zhytelna.
"I felt good about my game today," said Harper. "I was so focused and locked in, it felt like everything was falling into place. I honestly didn't expect a match like this today, I mean I knew I was capable of it, but I was readying myself for a super long battle. As for tomorrow, I'm just going to carry the same mentality and bring the same energy on the court, and hopefully, things go my way."
"Losing the first set by a little was mentally tough for me," Ho said. "I wasn't playing the way I wanted but I persevered and won the second set in a super close tiebreaker. After getting the momentum from winning the set, I was able to get a lead in the third but lost the lead and it was tied up. The support of my coaches and teammates kept me going. Their encouragement means a lot to me because I don't feel like I'm alone on the court. I was able to win two deuce games at five-all winning the match in three hours. Go Matadors!"
