SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The CSUN women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday, sweeping UC Irvine, 4-0, at Barnes Tennis Center in the first round of the 2026 Big West Tennis Championship.
Â
The Matadors secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and two before claiming three straight singles victories to clinch the match.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
In doubles play, the tandem of Angela Ho and Nicole West set the tone with a commanding 6-1 win over Carolyna Fowler and Amanda Perez at Court No 1. Sandra Arguelles and Emma Moratalla Sanz followed with a 6-3 victory against Maily Huynh and Yen Nhi Huynh on court two to secure the point.Â
Â
The third doubles match featuring Satsuki Ishikawa and Madison Shepperson against Bella Pitchford and Sayuri Parandian was left unfinished at 4-4.Â
Â
CSUN carried that momentum into singles competition, where Moratalla Sanz was first off the court with a decisive 6-2, 6-2 win over Perez at Court No. 2. Shortly after, Ho defeated Nhi Huynh in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, on Court No.1 to take a 3-0 lead.Â
Â
It came down to the freshman Ishikawa who did what she does all year, which is winning games. She won her 13th match in a row to begin her college career after she downed Haily Huynh, 6-1, 6-4 at Court No. 4, to clinch the win.Â
Â
Three singles matches went unfinished following the clinch. West was in a third set against Carolyna Fowler at No. 3, Tallia Harper was tied in her second set versus Bella Pitchford at No. 5, and Arguelles battled Maily Huynh at No. 6.

POSTGAME COMMENTS FROM EMMA MORATALLA SANZ
"I feel like we came to play today. We brought all that energy from the first point in doubles and transferred it to singles. It was a little bit windy during the match, but we handled it really well and I am so happy we got the win against a good team . I'm looking forward to tomorrow!

POSTGAME COMMENTS FROM NICOLE WEST
"Excited to get the win today. We had a really solid team effort today. Started strong in doubles and kept the energy rolling for a 4-0 win. The freshmen have been stepping up in a major way, and there is so much trust on this team up and down the line.
